About the Owner
Derek Weyand, knife-maker and owner of Weyand Knives, LLC, began his knife making journey in 2013 making railroad spike knives. Since that time, Derek has progressed to making knives from other repurposed steels as well as known steels such as Alabama Damascus, 1084, 80crv2, 5160, D-2, CPM154, and stainless to name a few. Derek is never content with his skill; his craft is always changing and improving. In addition to handcrafting all of his leather sheaths, he also casts his own knife scales using pinecones, cholla cactus with Alumalite resin as well as stabilizes all of his antler. Derek has even begun to craft new leather products such as wallets. He is always working to improve his skill and challenge himself in whatever product he makes.
After finishing four years in the US Navy, Derek returned home in 2001 to Fredericktown, Missouri. He has had many hobbies throughout the years such as making custom, fine furniture and custom duck calls. His forging interest began while making custom hardware for a furniture piece ordered by a client. After completing that project, the experimenting began with knife making, and Derek has never looked back.
The future of Weyand Knives, LLC is promising as Derek's son begins to work side-by-side with dad learning the art of knife making.
